How to export all notes of Redmine issues to CSV
You cannot export all notes of an issue to CSV. However, you can export only the last note.
- Click "CSV" in "Also available in:" at the bottom right of the issue list page
- Select "Last notes"
- Click "Export"
In addition, with the REST API, you can get the data of all notes in XML or JSON. The REST API can get various data such as the history of issues.
To use the API, you can write a program that accesses the API or use a command line tool. This page introduces how to use curl, a command line tool that is easy to use. curl is installed by default on Linux and macOS, and a version for Windows is distributed on the official curl website.
Assume that Redmine runs at https://redmine.example.jp/. The following example gets the history of an issue like the one in the screenshot below in JSON format.
Command:
$ curl -H 'X-Redmine-API-Key: YOUR_API_ACCESS_KEY' 'https://redmine.example.jp/issues/4061.json?include=journals'
You can check your API access key in the sidebar of the "My account" page. If "API access key" does not appear, turn on "Administration" → "Settings" → "Integrations" (the "API" tab in Redmine 6.1 and earlier) → "Enable REST web service".
In this command example, you enter the API access key directly. Please be very careful not to leak the API access key. Do not run the command on a server on the Internet or in a similar place.
Result:
{"issue":{"id":4061,"project":{"id":7,"name":"User Management System"},"tracker":{"id":1,"name":"Bug"},"status":{"id":2,"name":"In Progress","is_closed":false},"priority":{"id":5,"name":"Normal"},"author":{"id":14,"name":"Emily Carter"},"assigned_to":{"id":15,"name":"Daniel Reed"},"subject":"Saving the settings page shows an error","description":"Please investigate.","start_date":null,"due_date":"2026-10-09","done_ratio":0,"is_private":false,"estimated_hours":null,"total_estimated_hours":null,"spent_hours":0.0,"total_spent_hours":0.0,"created_on":"2026-10-02T06:14:51Z","updated_on":"2026-10-02T06:19:36Z","closed_on":null,"journals":[{"id":20,"user":{"id":15,"name":"Daniel Reed"},"notes":"I was able to reproduce it. For details, such as how to get the data in XML format and how to get information other than issues, please also see the REST API reference on the official Redmine website.
