Preventing the creation of issues in a parent project in Redmine

If you configure a parent project to use no trackers, you can prohibit the creation of issues in it.

Suppose that you create a parent project to classify many subprojects. In some cases, you do not want users to create issues in the parent project, but you want to view the issues of the subprojects in one list.

You might expect to do this by clearing the "Issue tracking" checkbox in the "Settings" → "Project" tab of the project. However, this also hides the "Issues" tab, which displays the issue list, and you cannot view the combined issue list of the subprojects.

If you configure the parent project to use no trackers with the following steps, you can prohibit only the creation of issues and keep the "Issues" tab.

How to configure

  1. Select the parent project to configure in the project selector.
  2. Go to "Settings" → the "Issue tracking" tab, and clear all tracker checkboxes.
(In Redmine 3.4 and earlier, you can configure this in the "Information" tab of the "Settings" page.)
  3. Click "Save".
