What to check when you cannot delete an issue in Redmine
Only administrators and users whose role has the "Delete issues" permission can delete issues. If "Delete issue" does not appear on the issue page, or if you cannot delete the issue, please check the following points.
What to check
1. Check that the role has the "Delete issues" permission
In the standard features of Redmine, the permission settings of the role decide whether a user can delete issues. By default, the "Delete issues" permission is assigned only to the "Manager" role. Users with roles such as "Developer" and "Reporter" cannot delete issues.
How to isolate the cause
- On "Administration" → "Roles and permissions" → "Permissions report", check that the role applied to the user has the "Delete issues" permission.
- In the "Issue tracking" section at the bottom of each role page under "Administration" → "Roles and permissions", also check that "Delete issues" is selected for the tracker.
2. Check that you are not looking at an issue of a subproject
Redmine can display the issues of subprojects in the issue list of the parent project. This setting is enabled by default. Therefore, you may think that you are looking at the parent project, but you have actually opened an issue of a subproject.
In addition, the permissions in the parent project and the subproject are not always the same. If "Inherit members" is not enabled in the subproject, the permissions that you have in the parent project may not apply to the subproject.
How to isolate the cause
Check which project the issue belongs to, and check the role assigned to you in that project. If necessary, also check whether "Inherit members" is enabled in the subproject.
3. Check that the project is not in the "closed" status
When a project is in the "closed" status, you can view the registered information but you cannot update it. Deleting an issue is also an update operation, so you cannot do it in a closed project.
How to isolate the cause
Check the status of the project that the issue belongs to. If it is "closed", reopen the project if necessary.
4. Check that the View Customize plugin does not disable the delete operation
If you cannot delete an issue although the permission settings of the standard features are correct, the View Customize plugin may hide or disable the "Delete issue" menu.
How to isolate the cause
To check whether a View Customize customization affects the operation, disable all View Customize customizations and check again.
