Private issues
Private issues are used when you want to restrict access to an issue so that it is not visible to all project members.
For example, they are useful for handling sensitive information—such as salary details—within administrative tasks that should not be visible to everyone.
Who Can View a Private Issue
By default, a private issue can be viewed by the following users:
- The issue author
- The assignee
- Project members whose role has Issues visibility set to All issues
(by default, this is the Manager role) - Administrators
How to Use Private Issues
To create a new issue as a private issue, select the Private checkbox in the upper-right area of the issue creation screen.
To make an existing issue private, open the issue for editing and check Private on the edit screen.

Private issues are labeled Private in the issue view.

To create private issues, one of the following permissions is required:
- Set issues public or private
- Set own issues public or private
You can assign these permissions to roles under:
Administration → Roles and permissions → Permissions report
By default, these permissions are granted only to the Manager role.
